An LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) is provided to produce an LCD panel without a diffusing plate, a light guiding plate, an optical sheet, and a color filter layer, thereby decreasing the thickness of the LCD, by adopting a backlight unit using optical fibers. An LCD panel(202) controls the rotation of liquid crystals to display an image. A light source(236) generates at least one of white light and three color lights to apply the light to the LCD panel. An optical fiber array(212) moves the light from the light source to one lateral surface of the LCD panel. The optical fiber array is composed of optical fibers formed in at least one of an end light type and a side light type. A reflecting sheet is disposed on a lower surface of the optical fiber array when the optical fiber array consists of side light type optical fibers. |
