A projection television and a method for controlling the same are provided to prevent a phenomenon that a screen appears to be spotted by external light by installing a motor blocking curtain on a back surface of the screen. A motor blocking curtain(50) is operated by a power state of a projection television and installed on a back surface of a screen(11) in order to block light from being transmitted through the screen. The motor blocking curtain includes a blocking curtain, a roller(40), a motor(30) and a weight member(60). The blocking curtain is formed on a back surface of the screen so as to block transmission of the light. The roller winds the blocking curtain. The motor rotates the roller in clockwise and counterclockwise directions according to the power state of the projection television, and moves up and down the blocking curtain wound around the roller. The weight member is formed at a lower portion of the blocking curtain so that a spread state of the blocking curtain is maintained when the blocking curtain is moved up and down.
