LIVING ANIONIC POLYMERIZATION OF ISOCYANATES USING METALCARBONATE INITIATORS

Provided are a metal carbonate initiator for the polymerization of polyisocyanate to inhibit depolymerization, to reduce reaction time and to improve reaction efficiency without additional additive, and a method for polymerizing polyisocyanate by using the metal carbonate initiator. The metal carbonate initiator is represented by the formula(1), wherein M is an alkali metal selected from Li, Na, K and Cs; and R1 and R2 are a C1-C20 alkyl group or an aromatic group, respectively. Preferably the metal carbonate initiator forms a cluster represented by the formula(2). The method comprises the step of polymerizing an isocyanate monomer with the metal carbonate initiator of the formula(1) by anionic polymerization to obtain a polyisocyanate homopolymer or copolymer.
