A method for providing a nickname service in transmitting a voice message is provided to transmit a voice message to a called mobile terminal together with the nickname of a caller so that the user of the called mobile terminal can easily identify the caller of the voice message. The user of a calling mobile terminal inputs a service ID and the phone number of a called mobile terminal and makes a voice message transmission request to a message call service server(S200). The message call service server, receiving the voice message transmission request, provides an announcement to request the calling mobile terminal to record a voice message(S210). The user of the calling mobile terminal records a desired voice message according to the announcement(S220). The message call service server stores the recorded message together with the phone numbers of the calling and called mobile terminals(S230). Then the message call service server transmits a request message to a calling HLR(Home Location Register) in order to confirm whether the user of the calling mobile terminal is associated with a nickname service(S240). The calling HLR, receiving the request message, checks the subscriber profile of the calling mobile terminal, confirms whether the user of the calling mobile terminal is associated with the nickname service, and transmits an associated response message to the message call service server(S250,S260).
