A rough road detection method for an electric stability program is provided to decide effectively whether a road surface is rough based on accumulated values of weights given differently according to the number of wheels that are assumed to run on the rough road surface. The rough road detection method for an electric stability program prohibits error detection of an ESP mounting sensor when the road surface is rough and includes the steps of: deciding number of wheels whose wheel speed variation exceeds a predetermined value; giving different weights according to the decided number of wheels; and deciding whether it is a rough road based on accumulated values of weights given for a predetermined period of time after a wheel whose wheel speed variation of weights exceeds a predetermined value is detected.
