A method and a device for updating software are provided to indicate information of the software by classifying a software package according to property, downgrade the software by adding an upgrade type, and manage multi-version of the software by each single or partial home. A flash memory stores the file information including type and version information of the software uploaded from each electronic device(230). A controller generated and stores the file information to the flash memory, and updates the software of the electronic device according to a version select and update command received from the electronic device. If the update command is an upgrade command, the controller determines whether the latest software version is higher than the present software version. If the update command is a downgrade command, the controller determines whether the latest software version is lower than the present software version.
