Provided are an apparatus for winding an electrode plate of a cylindrical battery, and a method for winding an electrode plate into a shape of cylinder by using the apparatus to increase the number of winding and capacity of battery. The apparatus is provided with a mandrel(100) for winding first and second electrode plates in which a polar active material is coated, and a separator interposed between the two electrode plates, wherein the mandrel has a circular cross-section, is divided into two parts by an insertion groove(101), and is provided with at least one flat part(103) formed on the at least one upper side part of the divided two parts. Preferably the flat part is formed at the position in which an electrode tap(215) combined with first or second electrode plate is located. |
