<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vertical alignment type liquid crystal display element which can perform both reflection display and transmission display, make the difference small in quality between a display image by the reflection display and a display image by the transmission display, and display images of superior quality, free of the sense of roughness by making the liquid crystal molecules of respective pixels align stably and obliquely by applying a voltage. <P>SOLUTION: A reflecting means 17 for sectioning a plurality of pixels A into a reflection display part A1, where the light incident from an observation side, is reflected to the observation side and a transmission display part A2, where light incident from a reflection side is transmitted to the observation side, is provided on the internal surface of a substrate 1 on the side opposite from the observation side. A liquid crystal layer adjusting layer 24, which defines the liquid crystal layer thickness d1 of the reflection display part A1 smaller than the liquid crystal layer thickness d2 of the transmission display part A2, is provided on the observation-side internal surface of the substrate 2. An auxiliary electrode 15, which forms an electric field having a predetermined value with a counter electrode 20, is provided on the facing-side internal surface of the substrate 1 facing the counter electrode 20 of the observation-side substrate 1 along the peripheral edge of the plurality of pixels 3. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
