PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording and reproducing device in which when a user who cannot understand neglected cause or meaning of an invalid mark repeats invalid key operations many times in a fixed time, an operation guide is indicated explicitly, and the user never misunderstands that failure is caused in the device main body. SOLUTION: A control part 4 decides whether or not the count value of an incorporated counter, that is, the number of times of depressing is a fixed value or more (s8). The fixed value is, for example, 5 times. When it is decided that the count value is the fixed value or more, the control part 4 decides whether an elapse time is within the fixed time from the start of measuring a time in s3 (s9). The fixed time is, for example, 10 seconds. When it is decided that the time is within the fixed time, the control part 4 reads data for OSD from a storage part 6, inputs it to an OSD processing part 12, and instructs the OSD processing part 12 to make the operation guide be OSD-displayed on a television 101 (s10).
