PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reflection type liquid crystal display device which has high image quality by reducing variance of a cell gap in a display region, and its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: The reflection type liquid crystal display element 1 is constituted by sticking a semiconductor substrate 3 which has the display region A where pixel electrodes 2 are formed in a matrix on its surface and a transparent substrate 6 which has a transparent electrode 5 formed on its surface and transmits light together across a gap 8 with an annular seal part 10 enclosing the display region so that the pixel electrodes and transparent electrode face each other, and charging liquid crystal 11 in the gap 8. The reflection type liquid crystal display element 1 has an annular dam part 12 which is formed encircling the display region in contact with one of the surfaces of the semiconductor substrate and transparent substrate and has a specified height h1, and the annular sealing part 10 which is formed enclosing the dam part and coming into contact with the surfaces of the semiconductor substrate and transparent substrate and has a height h2 larger than that of the dam part.
