PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for expanding a steel tube suitable for expanding a UOE steel tube with its diameter changing extensively and capable of expanding the steel tube from an inner surface side by using a plurality of dies. SOLUTION: The device has a mechanism in which a plurality of substantially cylindrical dies are arranged on the outer side of a cone; the dies are made to expand in the direction orthogonal to the axis of the cone by pulling a pull-rod, and the steel tube is expanded from its inner surface side. Each die has a two-layered structure consisting of a taper segment arranged on the outer surface side of the cone and an outer segment which is capable of changing the position on the taper segment and brought into contact with the inner surface side of the steel tube during the expansion. The surface on which the outer segment is mounted by the taper segment is substantially inclined along an inclined surface of the cone. The mounting position of the outer segment on the taper segment is changed according to the diameter of the steel tube to be expanded. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
