The invention relates to a sock consisting of knitted yarn, used as footwear and having a sock wall (4) that contains knitting, in which at least part of the sock surface is designed as a ventilation region (1, 2). Said ventilation region is provided, at least in the sock wall (4) of the sock that is pulled over the foot, with hole-type ventilation passages (3) for dissipating heat and/or perspiration. The sock has a narrow ventilation region (1) that extends transversally to the longitudinal direction of the sock and is formed on the upper stretch region of the sock, said ventilation region running transversally along the line of curvature, along which the toes are joined to the metatarsal bones.
