The method involves determining a reference-braking torque in a recuperation operation of an electrical machine (10). An electrical parameter of the electrical machine is adjusted in such a manner that the electrical machine produces the desired reference-braking torque. A part of the desired-braking torque is effected, by producing an electrical energy, as long as an energy storage (8) is capable of absorbing it, and a remaining part of the torque is dissipated by producing lost heat. An independent claim is also included for a device for recuperating electrical energy in a hybrid-vehicle.
