Disclosed is a polysilane having excellent functionality (such as solvent solubility and reactivity), which is obtained by introducing a structural unit represented by the formula (1) below into a polysilane through a reaction with a dihalosilane having an Si-H bond and then adding a hydrosilylatable compound (such as a compound having a carbon-carbon unsaturated bond) to the Si-H bond. (1) (In the formula, R<SUP>1</SUP> represents a hydrogen atom, an organic group or a silyl group, and n represents an integer not less than 1.)
