PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a navigation system wherein scaling display of a road map is carried out promptly after a user depresses the road map displayed on a display monitor without the need to keep depressing the display monitor for some time. SOLUTION: In order to carry out scaling display of the road map 20, the user depresses a detailed wide area button 21 so that scaling display processing of the road map is enabled, and the user depresses the point 23 in the road map 20 where the user desires enlarged display. As a result, the enlarged display of the road map is carried out with the position 23 as its center. At this time, since scroll processing of the road map is disabled, the road map 20 is not scrolled even when the road map 20 is depressed. Then, the navigation system does not have to detect depressing operation continued for some duration of time in order to decide whether the pressing operation is intended to carry out enlarged display.
