PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge tube lighting device which allows a stable operation by use of a transformer with a high degree of coupling and a small magnetic leakage flux. SOLUTION: In an inverter circuit 1, transistors Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4 are switched on/off based on signals output from oscillators Os1, Os2 to generate pulse voltages at nodes P1, P2. An inductor L1 is connected to one end of a primary coil of the transformer T1, and a voltage input to the inductor L1 and the primary coil of the transformer T1 is boosted and output. In such a constitution, when a transformer with a high degree of coupling and a small leakage flux is used as the transformer T1 in place of a transformer with a poor degree of coupling and a large leakage flux, the reduced amount of a leakage inductance is complemented by the choke coil L1.
