A process for producing an annular gasket (1) comprising a metal base (2) and an elastic sealing layer (3) laminated to each side thereof, characterized by subjecting a metal sheet (20) to punching to obtain divided constituent materials (5a) and (5b) for the metal base (2) which are slightly wider than a given gasket width and constitute a given annular shape, butting these constituent materials (5a) and (5b) to temporarily make up an annular shape, bonding the butt parts to each other by welding to form an annular object (5), pressing the annular object (5), subsequently laminating an elastic compound material (30) to each side of the annular object (5) to thereby form elastic sealing layers (3), and thereafter punching a given gasket shape out of the annular object (5) to obtain a gasket (1).
