A variable intake system is provided to improve volumetric efficiency of intake air by adjusting the length of an air intake runner appropriately to each operating region of an engine. A first air passage(2) has one end communicated to a first surge volume(1) and the other end communicated to an inlet of a second surge volume(3). The second surge volume has an outlet connected to an engine(5) via a second air passage(4). The second surge volume has a fixed passage, and two movable passages inserted into both ends of the fixed passage. A variable intake system includes a moving unit for moving the movable passages sideways in accordance with a low-mid speed operating region, a mid-high speed operating region, and a high speed operating region.
