PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric vacuum cleaner which can prevent a brush member from collapsing inside moving from the end of a gap suction opening to a base side even a force is applied to the brush member from the surface to be cleaned and which allows a use easily move the brush member. SOLUTION: A stepped recess section 14 is formed on the top side of a nozzle section 1b of the gap suction opening 1 and a brush installing section 3 of the brush member 2 is fitted and latched on the stepped recess section 14. The base 1a side surface of the gap suction opening 1 of the stepped recess section 14 is made of a step 13. The depth of the bottom end of the step 13 becomes shallower towards the tip of the gap suction opening 1 and also it is provided with an inclination 15 with the height higher than the top end of the step 13. Thus the stepped recess section 14 of the gap suction opening 1 is firmly fitted with an inner surface 9 of the brush member 2 and the engagement of an end surface 7 of the brush installing section 3 of the brush member 2 to the step 13 is reinforced.
