PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent damage of an optical moving body etc. at the time of setup. SOLUTION: An image reading device 1 comprises a first optical moving body 10 and a second optical moving body 20 each bearing an optical system and capable of moving along an original placing unit, a stepping motor 31 for making these optical moving bodies 10, 20 move, fixing means for fixing the optical moving bodies 10, 20 to a shipping position, a fix release control mode for controlling a current to be flowed to the stepping motor 31 when the optical moving bodies 10, 20 are made to be moved to a home position from the shipping position to be a smaller current than a current to be flowed at the time of a normal reading operation, a home position switch 50 for detecting the return of the optical moving bodies 10, 20 to the home position, and a display unit 5 for notifying unreleased state when the home position switch 50 does not detect the return of the optical moving bodies 10, 20 at the time of performing the fix release control mode.
