PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To lessen the reduction of response speed for image display at a low temperature. SOLUTION: The display control circuit CTL which controls a display panel DP on which a plurality of pixels PX having an optical control layer between a pair of substrates 1, 2 are allocated in a substantial matrix form, includes: a temperature detecting unit 6 which detects a temperature of the display panel; and a display panel drive unit (7, 13, 14, or XD) which periodically outputs a gradation signal that corresponds to a video image signal, to each pixel. The display panel drive unit has: a setting unit 7a which sets a gradation signal corresponding to the video image signal in response to a temperature of the display panel detected by the temperature detecting unit; and an overdrive output units (7a and 7b) which output another gradation signal instead of the gradation signal in at least a one-cycle period after a change of gradation of the video image signal in response to this change.
