A retardation film fabrication method which draws a continuously fed film by the Tenter drawing method includes a first step for grasping at least two width-direction ends of the film by a grasping instrument and drawing the film in the lateral direction by increasing the interval of the grasping instrument, a second step for narrowing the interval of the grasping instrument in the lateral direction while grasping the film width-direction both ends by the grasping instrument, and a third step for drawing the film in the lateral direction by increasing the interval of the grasping instrument while grasping the film width-direction both ends by the grasping instrument.
