PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To incinerate large amount of objects to be incinerated in a short period of time by improving efficiency of incineration, in a vertical incinerator which is unlikely to generate odor and can be installed in a small area. SOLUTION: The incinerator consists of a filling chamber 2 for storing the objects to be incinerated, a screw 6 for feeding the objects to be incinerated into the filling chamber 2, a first combustion chamber 3 provided below the filling chamber 2, a second combustion chamber 4 provided below the first combustion chamber 3 and a pit 15 for storing ashes and a gas burner 30 is provided in the first combustion chamber 3 to ignite the objects to be burned in the chamber. A ventilation system 9 is connected to the first combustion chamber 3. Openable and closable hearth structures 500, 500a, 500b are provided at bottom parts of the filling chamber 2, the first combustion chamber 3 and the second combustion chamber 4. The hearth structures 500, 500a, 500b are capable of being cooled by flowing water and the hearth structures 500, 500a are structured to output air into the filling chamber 2, the first combustion chamber 3 and the second combustion chamber 4.
