PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image restoration method with which an image is efficiently restored at high speed not only in the case of a small damage but in the case of a large damage and furthermore, in the case of many broadly scattered damages. SOLUTION: In the image restoration method for restoring damages of an original image, wavelet transform is first performed in order to divide the original image into a low frequency component and a high frequency component (a step 101). Then, the low frequency component divided by a wavelet transform process (a step 102) is restored by interpolation (a step 103). Reverse wavelet transform is performed by using the low frequency component restored by an interpolation image restoration process (a step 104) and the high frequency component to generate a restored image.
