PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device which displays a high-quality video by superposing specified wavelength light from an auxiliary light source on white light from a white light source so as to compensate for the white light, and does not give an unpleasant feeling to a user because the video where the intensity of the specified wavelength light from the auxiliary light source is high is displayed when the white light source and the auxiliary light source are turned on. SOLUTION: When a projector 1 is started, a control part 20 lights a high-pressure mercury lamp 11 first. If a lighting decision part 21 decides that lighting succeeds, lighting of an LED array 12 where a plurality of LEDs are juxtaposed is started. Lighting of the LED array 12 is controlled to gradually increase light quantity by a method to light it according to a pulse signal while increasing a duty ratio so that a supplied current is gradually increased or to gradually increase the number of lighting LEDs out of a plurality of LEDs.
