The injector has a nozzle needle (3), where a needle assembly of the needle has an injecting piston (10) which separates an injecting area (9) from a nozzle area (12). A valve arrangement (17) has a switching condition, in which the arrangement hydraulically couples an operating path with a fuel guided high pressure system and couples a reset path with a low pressure system or with a high pressure system. The arrangement has another switching condition, in which the arrangement couples the reset path with the high pressure system and couples the operating path with the low pressure system. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating an injector.
