The machine has a carrying reel that forms a nip with a winding roller (6), and a transport device with a storage unit that leads a reel along a horizontal guiding path. An air squeeze roller (12) with a roller body (14) is attached in a lower region of the winding machine. The air squeeze roller is attached to the winding roller by a movement mechanism when reaching a desired layer thickness. The air squeeze roller is supported by a supporting roller (13) for avoidance of its deflection during attachment of the air squeeze roller to the winding roller.
