PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate the transfer to a mode which can be used by a device by limiting error-related functions. SOLUTION: When an operation of a first function cannot be executed while an operation of a second function can be executed in a multi-function device, the user is allowed to input via an operation means an instruction for determining the execution/non-execution of a function limiting operation for making the device execute a job which requires no operation of the first function but requires the operation of the second function. When the operation of the first function cannot be executed while the operation of the second function can be executed in the device and at the same time the execution of the function limiting operation is permitted by the instruction from the user, the device is permitted to execute the job which requires no operation of the first function while requiring the operation of the second function. And, when the operation of the first function cannot be executed while the operation of the second function can be executed in the device and the execution of the function limiting operation is not permitted, the device is prohibited from executing the job which requires no operation of the first function while requiring the operation of the second function.
