A multi-layer information storing medium, a previous recording method therefor, and a recording/reproducing apparatus are provided to secure reliable recording of user data by differently performing previous recording according to a recording mode. Recording area sizes of a recording layer(L1) which is nearest from a pickup and another recording layer(L2) mutually differ among a plurality of recording layers. The recording area size of the recording layer(L1) which is nearest from the pickup is greater than the recording area size of the another recording layer(L2).
