PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide, at low cost, a recording device capable of accurately detecting the direction and the angle of the skew produced when a material to be recorded is fed or carried. SOLUTION: One side end position of a recording paper P in the main scanning direction X detected by a PW sensor 34 while a carriage 61 is moved relative to the recording paper P in the main scanning direction X is designated as "a first end position". One side end position of the recording paper P in the main scanning direction X detected by the PW sensor 34 while the carriage 61 is moved in the main scanning direction X with respect to the recording paper P at a conveyance position conveyed in the sub scanning direction Y by an arbitrary conveyance amount L from the detected point of "the first end position" is designated as "a second end position". The skew direction of the recording paper P is specified based on the position relation between "the first end position" and "the second end position" in the main scanning direction X.
