PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide, at low cost, a recording device capable of accurately detecting the direction and the angle of the skew produced when a material to be recorded is fed or carried. SOLUTION: One side end position of a recording paper P in the main scanning direction X detected by a PW sensor 34 while a carriage 61 is moved relative to the recording paper P in the main scanning direction X is designated as "a first end position".
