PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing gas that can produce hydrogen by water gas reaction using carbonaceous material, biomass or the like, further can generate hydrogen at a row temperature. SOLUTION: A carbonaceous material including 0.1 to 10 mass% of a metal (but bamboo carbon is excluded) is charged in the reaction vessel, then steam is introduced into the reaction vessel to heat the carbonaceous material in the reaction vessel with microwave and to produce gas including hydrogen.
