The method involves providing a functional chain that consists of a piezo- actuator (12), nozzle needle (16) and a coupler (14) arranged between the piezo-actuator and the nozzle needle, and detecting electrical load and an electrical voltage adjusted at the piezo- actuator. High frictional forces in the nozzle needle are recognized by using the values of the voltage and the load, which are produced during increase in actuator forces on varying the actuator length. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a control device with an injector (2) a computer program for a control device (3) a memory medium for a control device.
