<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new compound useful for a photoelectric conversion device such as a solar cell and a light emitting device, a photoelectric conversion device and a light emitting device using the compound, and a device for optical communication using the light emitting device. <P>SOLUTION: The compound is a compound of Group III elements and Group V elements, which is almost lattice-matched with GaAs or Ge and contains Bi and P as Group V elements.
