PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piston, on the market, capable of sufficiently cooling a back face of a combustion chamber while sufficiently cooling the combustion chamber, and achieving high cooling efficiency of the combustion chamber and the back face of the combustion chamber at low cost while using advantages of an integrally-molded piston without drastically changing it. SOLUTION: In this piston 1, a gallery 8 for cooling the combustion chamber back face is formed on the back face 4 of the combustion chamber 2, and an inflow hole 5 and a first discharge hole 6 are provided in different positions around the combustion chamber 2, respectively. A plate 10 fixed to the piston 1 is provided so as to cover the back face 4 of the combustion chamber 2, and the gallery 8 for cooling the combustion chamber back face is constituted as a space defined by the combustion chamber back face 4 and the plate 10.
