The device has an energy storage device (4.1) e.g. battery or condenser, and an energy supply device (4.2) e.g. generator or fuel cell arrangement, producing supply voltages. The energy storage and supply devices are commutated with a switching device (8.3) on load current paths of an electrical load (2). The switching device for commutation of the current paths partially uses a separation contactor of the energy storage device than a switching unit e.g. mechanical or electronic switch, for the commutation. The switching device has a fuse and a conductor path restriction in the current paths. An independent claim is also included for a method for redundant power supply to a consumer load.
