<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved apparatus and method for forming a penetrating cavity in a target site within a parent's body through skins and dilating the cavity. <P>SOLUTION: The apparatus for forming and enlarging a penetrating cavity comprises an elongate dilation member including a radially expandable tubular braid and having a proximal end, a distal end, and an axial lumen with a first cross section area; a means at the distal end of the dilation member for puncturing tissue as the member is percutaneously advanced; an elongate expansion member 12 including a fixed radius tubular element 60 having a distal end 62, a proximal end 64, and an axial lumen with a second cross sectional area; and means at the distal end of the expansion member 12 for facilitating insertion of the tubular element 60 through the axial lumen of the dilation member. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
