<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the strength of a frame and to assure image quality. <P>SOLUTION: A front beam 62 and a rear beam 63 are constructed on the front side and rear side of a scanner unit 27 and a top surface plate 62B facing a scanner support plate 67 across the scanner unit 27 in-between is constructed. As a result, the strength around the scanner unit 27 can be improved without entailing upsizing of the apparatus. Further, a top surface plate 71 is non-fixed to the scanner support plate 67 and the scanner unit 27 and therefore, even if the top surface plate 71 is distorted, the distortion thereof is hardly transmitted to the scanner support plate 67 and the scanner unit 27.
