<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information processing apparatus which allows another apparatus to quickly grasp contents of data when transmitting the data to the other apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: A generating section 305 generates thumbnail picture data of image data in source data when a transmission time being a time required for transmitting proxy image data is a prescribed time or over. A transmission section 306 transmits the source data, the proxy image data, and metadata of the source data in the order of the metadata, the proxy image data, and the source data. Further, the transmission section 306 transmits the thumbnail picture data in place of the proxy image data when the transmission time is the prescribed time or over.
