PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an authentication system in which a shared key used for authentication processing for confirming validity of a communicating party can be updated for each division of processing for receiving a request from the communicating party without exchanging the shared key itself with the outside. SOLUTION: In order to judge validity of a TV application program 200 or a customize utility program 300 to be communicated via a PCI bus, an encryption unit 24 executes authentication processing with the programs. The encryption unit 24 holds a plurality of shared keys to be used for the authentication processing beforehand and executes the authentication processing using a shared key different for each of the programs 200, 300. An update utility program 100 transmits identification information of shared keys (not transmit the shared keys themselves) via a network, for example, investigates whether or not updating of the shared keys is required, and executes shared key updating of the encryption unit 23 as needed.
