PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an amorphous ferrite carrier having lowered resistance, large specific surface area, low specific gravity and extended lifetime, and to provide an electrophotographic developer which prevents toner scattering, gives high image density and can meet the demand for higher speed and full-color image formation by using the ferrite carrier. SOLUTION: The amorphous ferrite carrier is obtained by coating a carrier core material with a resin, wherein the ferrite carrier has indefinite particle shape, includes≥40% by number of particles of a rock sugar shape and/or an oyster shell shape, has a shape factor (SF-1) of 140-250, its distribution width (δ) of≤60 and a shape factor (SF-2) of 120-150, and the coating weight of the resin is 0.01-10.0 wt.% based on the amount of the carrier core material.
