PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new organophosphorus compound, to provide a method for producing the same and to provide polytrimethylene terephthalate using the same. SOLUTION: The organophosphorus compound is represented by formula (1) (wherein, R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>and R<SP>3</SP>represent each independently a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an alkyl group, a cycloalkyl group, an aryl group or an aralkyl group). The method for producing the organophosphorus compound represented by formula (1) comprises reacting a compound represented by formula (2) with itaconic acid and 1,3-propanediol.
