PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for controlling a cutting operation of a flying shear, which apparatus can accurately cut off a workpiece material so as to have a set cutting-off length in a state that the speed V of the workpiece material is low. SOLUTION: The flying shear equipment to be arranged in a rolling line of a steel bar and a steel wire comprises an optimum blade waiting position calculating means 15 for calculating the waiting position of a shear blade 4, which waiting position is capable of accelerating a cutting-off speed up to an optimum cutting-off speed at the moving speed of the workpiece material 12 in a minimum distance according to the moving speed of the workpiece material 12, and a blade position control means 14 for controlling a shear blade waiting position based on the calculated result.
