METHOD FOR PRODUCING ALKYL ESTER OF FATTY ACID

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an efficient method for producing a fatty acid alkyl ester which method can be carried out by using an inexpensive raw material oil or fat at a low operating cost.

SOLUTION: The method for producing a fatty acid alkyl ester comprises the transesterification of an oil or fat with an alcohol in the presence of an alkali catalyst. In the production method, the transesterification is carried out concerning with an oil or fat which is obtained by a pretreatment step including a step for mixing the raw material oil or fat with alkali-containing glycerin produced as a by-product in the transesterification and neutralizing a free fatty acid in the raw material oil or fat with an alkali catalyst contained in the alkali-containing glycerin.
