PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a label separating mechanism capable of smoothly carrying printing paper and separating a label, and a label printer having this label separating mechanism. SOLUTION: This label separating mechanism separates the printing paper 4 of sticking the label 6 to a mount 5 into the mount 5 and the label 6; and has a separating shaft 23 bending the printing paper 4 so that the label 6 is separated from the mount 5, a driving roller 24 carrying the mount 5 after separating the label 6 by the separating shaft 23, and a driven roller 25 pressing a driving roller 24 for sandwiching the mount 5 in cooperation with the driving roller 24; and is characterized by carrying the mount 5 so as to wind the driving roller 24 in a substantially V shape.
