PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device which easily and surely prevents an excessive temperature rise by self-temperature control of a heating member without slowing down the rise of the device and has the heating member having a simple structure and is free from troubles such as break of the heating member and a fixing member even in continuous feeding of small-sized paper, and an image forming apparatus. SOLUTION: The fixing device includes; a magnetic field generation means 25 for generating an alternating magnetic field; a heating member 23 which is disposed so as to have front and rear sides spaced from and interposed between the magnetic field generation means 25, and generates heat by the alternating magnetic field; and a varying means which varies distances M1 and M2 from at least one of the front and rear sides of the heating member 23 to a magnetic field generation means 25a by positions in a breadthwise direction.
