The rail has one side that forms a guiding unit for guiding a sliding door, and another side connected with a side panel of a body of a motor vehicle in an application state of the guide rail (2). A sealing unit partially seals a connecting region between the guide rail and the side panel of the vehicle body. The sealing unit has a foam support plate on one of the sides of the guide rail. The foam support plate concurrently serves as contact surface in the connecting region between the guide rail and the side panel of the vehicle body. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a guide rail.
