<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which can maximize a power-saving effect and reduce a wait time of a return from a power-saving mode. <P>SOLUTION: This image forming apparatus comprises: a controller 1 which performs the control of a shift to/the return from the power-saving mode; various control parts which are controlled by the controller 1; and an external communication monitoring part 7 which monitors the packet of a communication device connected via a network.
