PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a maintenance recovery unit for preventing columnar deposition of image forming agent in waste liquid by preventing the image forming agent in waste liquid from fixing in a waste liquid container, and to provide an ink jet recorder. SOLUTION: The maintenance recovery unit performs an operation for sucking residual ink in a nozzle in order to assure the ink channel of an ink jet recording head thus stabilizing ink ejection from the nozzle of the ink jet recording head. The maintenance recovery unit has a container for containing waste liquid, i.e. ink sucked by ink suction operation, and a part for storing solvent is provided on the bottom of the waste liquid container at a position where the waste liquid drips.
