PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a test disk and a drive testing method capable of smoothly testing whether an HD DVD drive can properly record/play a two-layer type DRAW type HD DVD. SOLUTION: In the test disk 30, data of capacity (about 3 MByte) of the degree of a small fraction of the recording capacity of layers 0 and 1 is recorded over the layers 0 and 1, and a middle area of the layers 0 and 1 is expanded. Next, the test disk 30 is mounted in a test object drive, and a testing device inquires of the test object drive, a start position of the middle area, a recording end position of file data, a recordable start position of the disk and a recordable capacity (spare capacity). When the inquiry is properly responded, the existence/absence of middle area expansion, the acceptance/rejection of recording of the disk, the recordable capacity and the recordable start position can properly be recognized so that it can be determined that the test object drive can perform a recording operation from a proper recording position when the DRAW type HD DVD is recordable.
