PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve luminance of a light source represented by a CCFL (cold cathode fluorescent lamp) and to obtain a uniform luminance/chromaticity distribution so as to achieve both of a lower cost and high picture quality of a liquid crystal display device whose scale becomes larger; and to obtain a high-quality liquid crystal display device achieving a low cost and high picture quality by solving the problems. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device comprises: a white light source having three-color light emitting phosphors of a blue phosphor giving a blue emission color, a green phosphor giving a green emission color and a red phosphor giving a red emission color; and a liquid crystal element having color filters controlling the transmission quantity of light from the white light source by each pixel and transmitting light in one of the blue, green and red colors by each pixel. In this display device, the green phosphor is expressed by composition formula of (La<SB>1-x-y</SB>, Tb<SB>x</SB>, Ce<SB>y</SB>)PO<SB>4</SB>, wherein compositional ratios of x and y satisfy both of 0.50<x+y<0.70 and 1.20<y/x<2.00, and more preferably, both of 0.50<x+y<0.65 and 1.50<y/x<1.70.
